02 · The problem
Nigerians don't buy online what they can't see, because they can't trust who they can't see.
Nigeria's online commerce runs on cash‑on‑delivery and WhatsApp screenshots. The trust deficit is the bottleneck on everything worth more than a phone case.
- ConsumersPay‑and‑vanish sellers, counterfeits, no recourse when it goes wrong.
- Property seekersFake agents, double‑letting, fraudulent titles, non‑refundable "inspection fees".
- Vehicle buyersOdometer fraud, hidden accident history, stolen or encumbered cars.
- Honest businessesLose to cheaper fraudsters and pay a "Nigeria discount" in every deal.
- DiasporaUS$20bn a year in remittances, and no way to verify a counterparty from London.
03 · Why it hasn't been fixed
The market leader monetises listings, not trust.
Jiji earns from seller volume and paid boosts. Verifying and removing sellers cuts its own revenue. That is a structural conflict, not a product gap.
- ClassifiedsUnverified sellers, no payments, no dispute resolution. Reach without recourse.
- Inventory e‑commerceJumia and Konga control quality by holding stock, which caps assortment and excludes services, property and vehicles.
- Cross‑borderAliExpress and Temu win on price and lose on delivery time, customs, FX and local recourse.
- Property portalsLead generation only. No title checks, no escrow, no agent accountability.
- Review sitesUnverified reviews with no transaction data behind them.
04 · The solution
Trust is the product. The marketplace is the distribution.
Three layers that reinforce each other, so the insignia means something and the marketplace converts.
Verify — who you are
CAC, TIN, NIN/BVN of principals, address and bank match, sector licences, standards audit. Direct verification by our team, community verification only from real transactions.
Rate — how you behave
A live 0–100 score across Humanity, Trust and Quality. It decays without fresh evidence and re‑verification. Tiers: Verified, Trusted, Excellence.
Assure — what happens if it goes wrong
Escrow through licensed payment partners, a dispute centre with a 7‑day SLA, and an insurance‑backed guarantee on top‑tier transactions.
